A Brighter Environment at Sprain Brook Nursing & Rehabilitation
The goal – to have residents feel at home, rather than like they are in a facility. A warm textured wallpaper, in conjunction with an accent colored wallpaper used over the bed, envelops the rooms with an embracing warmth.
New cubicle curtains were installed to match the wall paper and a bright cheerful print made from a flame retardant fabric was used for the window treatment. A light color bleached wood replaced the dark heavy wood on the headboard and side table. New quilted bedspreads cover the beds and the new flooring is a yellow and apricot colored easy-care tile. Residents can enjoy the flat-screen TV’s installed in their rooms while relaxing in a moisture resistant crypton™ upholstered chair. The lighting was changed to make the room look more like home. Brighter lighting enhances the facility and the atmosphere has been transformed from cold, dark and institution-like setting to a bright home environment.
Brooklyn Residential Lobby Transformed by Act Two Interiors
This turn-of-the-century Brooklyn residential building was neglected for many years. The original architecture and details were buried and painted over. Act Two Interiors worked to restore the area to its original beauty and grandeur.

The paint was stripped, and frescoes and moldings were brought to life. The lobby was dark and gloomy, but new spotlights and overhead lighting was used to show the beauty of the restoration. The fireplace was stripped as well, and a screen with leaves was placed in front of the fireplace. Two sofas covered with faux leather were placed on either side of the fireplace to serve as a sitting area for the building residents. An antique mirror is hanging over the fireplace between two elegant sconces. A magnificent oil painting hangs on the wall opposite the fireplace. Beneath it is a wrought iron gilded upholstered bench. A small onyx console table was placed between the two elevators for residents to place their bags while waiting for the elevators. On either side of the lobby windows a sheer curtain with a contrasting border was hung on a gilded wooden rod with rings. The terrazzo flooring was stripped, repolished, and brought back to its original grandeur. Beautiful palm trees in ceramic pots were put in strategic spots throughout the lobby for a lush green look, bringing the outside in.
The residents were awestruck as they entered the newly decorated area.
